Merton Council is consulting on the future of Mitcham Carnival. We think this iconic event has lost its way in recent years, and our submission includes ideas and suggestions for making it more fun and more relevant, while giving local organisations and businesses a chance to publicise what they do.

Our suggestions include:

  • Bring back the carnival procession
  • Provide free stalls to small, unfunded, volunteer led organisations
  • Offer space to the very smallest organisations in a marquee
  • Have events like talks, a reading zone with space for local writers, and more
  • Provide space for local artisans, makers and others, so the Carnival can support local businesses
  • Have a "Business District" where larger local businesses can advertise and sell
  • Encourage local food sellers to take part, and make sure their stalls are branded as local - so that awareness of sellers in Mitcham Village and beyond is promoted
